St. Cloud Norsemen forward Nik Hong earned North American Hockey League distinction as the Central Division 2nd Star of the Week, while forward Hunter Hanson received an honorable mention.
Hong, a 6’0 185-pound ’02 native of Minneapolis, scored three goals in the Norsemen sweep of Austin, including the game-winning goal in Friday’s 5-4 victory, and a pair of goals in Saturday’s 5-1 romp. The Norsemen captain has scored 39 points on 13 goals and 26 assists in 40 games this season, and five of Hong’s tallies have been game-winning goals.
Hanson, a 5’10 175-pound ’02 native of Blaine, Minn. scored a goal and added two helpers in Friday’s home win over Austin. Hanson earned his fifth shorthanded point of the season with his assist on Blake Mesenburg’s shorthanded goal. Hanson has 6 goals and 13 assists for 19 points and has played every Norsemen game this season.
St. Cloud extended its lead for first place in the Central Division and now holds a five-point advantage over second place Austin, as the Norsemen sit at the top with 55 points in the standings. The Norsemen are on a 12-game winning streak and have the league’s best goal differential at +53. St. Cloud is back in action this Friday, February 25 at 7:00 p.m. at the Municipal Athletic Complex against the Minnesota Wilderness.
