Bismarck, N.D. – The St. Cloud Norsemen split the weekend series with Bismarck, taking a 4-3 overtime victory on Friday before falling 2-1 on Saturday.
Friday night, the Norsemen won 4-3 in overtime, after a wild finish.
Trailing 1-0 after the first, the Norsemen scored three goals in the second to take a 3-2 lead into the third. Logan Kittleson scored the first for St. Cloud, tying the game 1-1, five minutes into the period. Peyton Hanson tallied his first of the year, assisted by Chase Freiermuth and Nate Warner, who returned to the lineup for the first time since an injury a season ago.
Bismarck tied the game 2-2 just 30 seconds later before a blueline blast by Nick Young found the back of the net with three minutes left in the period to break the tie.
With just 6.9 seconds left on the clock at the end of the third, Bismarck went on the power play after being tripped up on a break. Quinn Rudrud scored for the Bobcats with .2 seconds on the clock to force overtime.
Just two minutes into the overtime frame, Brandon Lajoie put home the rebound of his own shot past Erik Forss to give the Norsemen the 4-3 overtime victory. Tomas Bolo made 24 saves in the win
On Saturday night, the Norsemen took a 1-0 lead midway through the first period on a goal by Evan Murr. The Bobcats scored one in the second and one in the third to take a 2-1 lead. The Norsemen had a late power play opportunity but were unable to find the equalizer. Josh Langford made 24 saves in the loss.
St. Cloud is back home this weekend to face Minot on October 29-30, both 7 p.m. starts at the Municipal Athletic Complex.
