St. Cloud, Minn. — The St. Cloud Norsemen sweep the second place team in the Central Division, the North Iowa Bulls, 3-2 in overtime on Saturday in front of a great crowd at the St. Cloud Municipal Athletic Complex.
Forward Ryan O’Neill (Roseville, MN | University of St. Thomas) scored the game-winning goal in overtime off a steal then pass from forward Nik Hong (Minneapolis, MN) at the 2:46 mark of overtime.
The Bulls took a 1-0 lead in the first period and the Norsemen fought back, first with a goal by rookie forward Kade Peterson (Fargo, ND) to even things at 1-1 at 6:49 of the third. After the Bulls pulled back in front 2-1, the Norsemen responded. St. Cloud’s Blake Perbix (Princeton, MN | Northern Michigan Univ.) stole a puck in front and buried a pass from O’Neill to even the game at 2-2 with 3:45 to play and force overtime.
O’Neill’s game-winning goal was the 52nd shot of the game for the Norsemen, who wildly outshot North Iowa 52-25. St. Cloud goaltender Tomas Bolo (Zilina, Slovakia) made 23 saves in the win, his second of the weekend, now with a record of 7-3-0.
