Dec 19, 2021

St. Cloud, Minn. — The St. Cloud Norsemen closed the first half of the season with a 4-0 shutout win over the Aberdeen Wings to win five of the last six games heading into the holiday break. Just six points separate the Norsemen from the number one spot in the Central Division standings, with St. Cloud having no less than three games in hand over the rest of the teams in the division.

St. Cloud took the 1-0 lead in the first period on a goal by Kade Peterson, with Peyton Hanson and Hunter Hanson earning assists. The Norsemen made it 2-0 before the close of the second period with Brandon Lajoie’s first goal of the night, assisted by Broten Sabo and Nik Hong.

Lajoie, an Alaska-Anchorage commit, tallied his second of the night just 18 seconds into the third period. Logan Kittleson and Hong added assists on the play. With just under five minutes remaining, the Norsemen made it 4-0 on a power play goal by Blake Mesenburg, where Hong picked up his third assist of the game and Ryan O’Neill added a helper.

Lajoie’s two-goal game moved him into the team goals lead with 12.

Ethan Dahlmeir earned his second career shutout, making 27 saves in the win.

The Norsemen are 14-9-0-1 heading into the break and return to action on New Years Eve at Aberdeen for a weekend series. St. Cloud returns home to the Municipal Athletic Complex on January 7-8.
