NORSEMEN ANNOUNCE YOUNG, HONG, MESENBURG AS CAPTAINS

St. Cloud, Minn. — The St. Cloud Norsemen are proud to announce that defenseman Nick Young, and forwards Nik Hong and Blake Mesenburg, will serve as captains for the duration of the 2021-22 season. All three Norsemen will wear the ‘C’.

Young, a 2001 defenseman from Raleigh, N.C. and has played in all 35 games for the Norsemen this season, scoring 13 points on 3 goals and 10 assists. Young (6’4, 210) has played 81 games in the North American Hockey League scoring 25 points with 7 goals and 18 assists. A 2022 Top Prospects selection, the Norsemen defender is a key part of St. Cloud’s penalty kill unit and is a hard-hitting shot blocker.

Hong, a 2002 forward is a returning letter-wearer from last season. Hong, the Minneapolis native forward, has played in 34 games this season, scoring 10 goals and totaling 33 points. Hong has played 90 games in his NAHL career, all for the Norsemen, and has 50 career points including 20 goals scored. Hong (5’11, 185) is part of both of St. Cloud’s power play and penalty kill units and is tied for second in the NAHL for shorthanded goals with 3.

Mesenburg, a 2002 forward from Orono, MN, has played in all 35 games this season, scoring 15 goals and 22 assists for 37 points, ranked 24th in the NAHL in scoring. In his career, Mesenburg has played in 88 games in the NAHL all with St. Cloud, scoring 25 goals and adding 32 helpers, for 57 career points. Mesenburg (5’11, 180) is part of both of St. Cloud’s power play and penalty kill units and is tied for the NAHL lead in shorthanded goals this season with 4. Mesenburg led the NAHL in goals with 9 in the month of January and was the runner-up for NAHL Forward of the Month.

The Norsemen are in action at the Municipal Athletic Complex in St. Cloud on Friday and Saturday, February 4-5 with a pair of 7:00 p.m. contests against the Bismarck Bobcats. Fans can join us to Skate With The Norsemen on Saturday night following the game. St. Cloud is in second place in the Central Division standings but is first in winning percentage, as the Norsemen compete for the division title, the North American Hockey League playoffs and Robertson Cup.
