ALUMNI UPDATE: CHORSKE ROOKIE HONORS, AROUND THE NCAA

St. Cloud, Minn. — St. Cloud Norsemen alum, forward Brett Chorske (2020-21) made the most of his NCAA debut and earned the NCHC Rookie of the Week honors for the final week of October. Chorske scored his first two career points to lead Colorado College to an 8-1 win over Air Force on Saturday, October 30. Chorske scored his first collegiate goal on the power play to help the Tigers to an 8-1 win and earn the Pikes Peak Trophy for Colorado College. Chorske also netted a power play goal in the Tigers loss to #1 St. Cloud State on Friday, November 5, the second of his career. He has three points in three games played.

Another Colorado College player hails from the franchise. Tigers defenseman Niklas Andrews scored two goals in the series against Air Force and has three points in seven games in his sophomore season. Andrews played for the Brookings Blizzard in the 2018-19 season.

AROUND THE NCAA

Elsewhere in NCAA Division I hockey, a trio of former franchise skaters have racked up 7 points this season for their respective teams. Former Brookings Blizzard forward Cade Borchardt (2016-17), has two goals and five assists in 10 games for #3 Minnesota State, including two goals and an assist in the Mavericks 5-1 win over Ferris State on Saturday. Borchardt is in his third season with the Mavs and has 31 career points in 48 games played.

Brandon Kruse, a 2018 Vegas Golden Knights draft pick, also a member of the 2016-17 Brookings squad, is spending his fifth NCAA season at #16 Boston College, scoring two goals and adding five assists in 10 games played. Kruse had 142 points in his four years at Bowling Green before making the move to the Eagles for his final season. Kruse scored a goal and an assist on Friday in the Eagles win over Merrimack.

Kruse and Borchardt are joined by their former Brookings teammate Taylor Schneider with seven points on the NCAA season. The Bowling Green forward had three assists in last weekend’s sweep of the University of St. Thomas.

Former Blizzard forward Chase Brand (2016-17, 17-18) is in his third season at #1 St. Cloud State and has three points in nine games. Roman Ahcan, who played in 10 games for the Blizzard in 2017, has three points in 10 games and wears the ‘A’ for Wisconsin this season.

ALUMS IN THE PROS

Paul Cotter, another member of the 2016-17 Blizzard team, scored a goal in the AHL’s Henderson Silver Knights 3-0 win over Tuscon on Friday. This is Cotter’s third season in the AHL and second with the NHL’s Vegas Golden Knights affiliate.

FORMER PLAYER COMMITMENTS

Defenseman Thor Byfuglien who played 10 games with the Norsemen in the spring of 2021, has committed to St. Cloud State University and is currently with the Chicago Steel in the USHL.
