BLIZZARD CAPTAIN MAKE NCAA COMMIT

The St. Cloud Blizzard are pleased to announce forward, Bud Winter has committed to play his college hockey at St. Mary’s University (MIAC, D3).

Winter announced his commitment to SMU Saturday via Twitter.

Winter, 21 wrapped up his junior hockey career this spring playing three years in the North American Hockey League. The 6’4/ 225 lbs. forward totalled 134 games played and a career 53 points (23 goals, 30 assists). Winter credits his development to the NAHL.

“Playing three years of junior hockey I have grown as a person and as a player.” Winter said.  “I can’t thank everyone enough who has helped me reach my goal of playing college hockey.”

St. Mary’s University plays in the Minnesota Intercollegiate  Athletic Conference (MIAC, D3). SMU finished the 20190-20 season with a 6-9-1 record. SMU is located in Winona, Minnesota and the Cardinals play all their home games at the St. Mary’s Ice Arena.

“I chose Saint Mary’s because I wanted to further my education at a great university.” Winter said. “I also wanted to be part of a program that is heading in the right direction with a supportive coaching staff.

Winter’s time with the Blizzard finished this past season being selected as team captain. The St. Louis, MO native was a leader on and off the ice and was selected to represent both the Blizzard and the Central division at the 2020 NAHL Top Prospects Tournament back in February.
