The St. Cloud Blizzard are pleased to announce that defenseman, Andrew Hicks has committed to play his college hockey at Augsburg University.
Hicks, a Minnetonka, MN native joined the Blizzard in October after spending the 2018-19 season with the Janesville Jets. The defenseman appeared in 43 games for the blue and green posting 12 points (3 G, 9 A). Hicks was also was a key part of Minnetonka H.S winning a MN State Championship in 2017.
“I chose Augsburg because of their winning tradition and the coaches are truly building something special over there.” Hicks stated. “In my mind, the coaches are the best in the business, and I cannot wait to play for the Augsburg coaching staff. I also just felt at home when I went on my visit there and knew I could picture myself attending school and playing hockey there.”
“The whole Blizzard organization is extremely excited for Andrew, he’s a terrific young man and we are excited to see his success at Augsburg.” Associate Head Coach Casey Mignone stated. “Hicks was solid all year long on the blue line for the Blizzard, with his ability to contribute on both offense and defense we are excited to see what he can do at the next level.”
Augsburg competes in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) and finished in third place this past season with 14-11-1 record. The NCAA Division III school is located in Minneapolis, MN and the Auggies play their home games out of Ed Saugestad Rink.
