NORSEMEN DEFEAT NORTH IOWA AND AUSTIN ON THE ROAD
THE MATCHUP- The St. Cloud Norsemen defeated the Austin Bruins at Riverside Arena on Friday night by a score of 5-1. On Saturday, St. Cloud beat the North Iowa Bulls for the second time in a week as they won 3-1 at Mason City Arena.
A LOOK AT THE CENTRAL DIVISION- After two victories this weekend, the Norsemen (31 points) are now in second place in the Central Division two points behind the league leading Minot Minotauros who have 33 points.
RECAP VS. AUSTIN- The Norsemen came out fast with Kim Sangyeob (Seoul, South Korea.) lighting the lamp for his first goal of the season. Hagen Moe (Grand Rapids, Mich.) and Keaton Orrey (Eagan, Minn.) would register the assists on the opening tally. The Bruins tied the contest up when Alex Laurenza scored 52 seconds into the second period. This wouldn’t stop St. Cloud as they found the net four times in the second period of play. Goals came from Wes Berg (Fort Myers, Fla.), Michael Coleman (Grand Forks, N.D.), Branden Panzer (Grand Forks, N.D.) and Moe who finished up the scoring for the first contest of the weekend. The Norsemen would go onto win the first game of the weekend by a decisive score of 5-1.
RECAP VS. NORTH IOWA- In game two, the Norsemen fell behind early as Blake Ulve found the back of the net for the Bulls at the 15:46 mark of the first period. Kyle Miller (San Jose, Calif.) would tie things up and Orrey would score the go ahead goal to give St. Cloud a one goal lead going into the third period. Hudson Blue (Costa Mesa, Calif) would score the final goal of the contest. This would be the eventual game-winning goal to secure the Norsemen with a 3-1 win to end the weekend.
MANZELLA BETWEEN THE PIPES- Ryan Manzella back stopped the Norsemen for both games this weekend. He turned away 38 of 40 shots attempted by both Austin and North Iowa.
TIE FOR SIX- Niklas Miller, Michael Coleman and Hagen Moe are tied with six goals on the Norsemen roster. This is one goal behind the team leader Tyler Dysart who has seven this season.
DYSART SELECTED FOR NAHL THREE STARS- Tyler Dysart was selected as one of the three North American League All-Stars for the week of November 13-19.
UP NEXT ON THE SCHEDULE- To start the December, St. Cloud will face off with the Bismarck Bobcats for the third time this season. Both games will be on home ice. Puck drop will be at 7 p.m. (C.T) on December 1-2.
