NORSEMEN, BOLO, SHUT OUT BRUINS

St. Cloud, Minn. — The St. Cloud Norsemen open the weekend with a 3-0 win over the Austin Bruins on Friday at the Municipal Athletic Complex, the first shutout of the season by the Norsemen.

Goaltender Tomas Bolo (Zilina, Slovakia) made 22 saves and his record stands at 5-0 with a 1.97 goals against average and .918 save percentage.

The Norsemen used a pair of power play goals in the second period to take a 3-0 lead through two periods of play.

Defenseman Nick Young (Raleigh, N.C.) scored his third goal of the season with 47 seconds left in the first period to give the Norsemen a 1-0 lead. Young’s tally was assisted by Ethan Lindahl (Andover, Minn.) and Peyton Hanson (Hudson, Wisc.).

In the second period, St. Cloud’s power play unit cashed in on one of several opportunities after Bruins penalties. Forward Nik Hong (Minneapolis, Minn.) scored his second goal of the season, first on the power play, to make it 2-0 at 11:12 of the 2nd period. Forward Chase Freiermuth (Hastings, Minn.) and defenseman Sam Duerr (Chicago, Ill.) picked up an assist on the play. With less than two minutes left in the second, Blake Perbix (Princeton, Minn.) put a feed from Blake Mesenburg (Orono, Minn.) and Ryan O’Neill (Roseville, Minn.) past Bruins netminder Hudson Hodges to make it 3-0 St. Cloud.

The Norsemen limited the Bruins to 22 shots while firing 35 shots on goal.

St. Cloud’s season is presented by Premier Real Estate and the Norsemen record stands at 8-4-0 through 12 games.
