ST. CLOUD TAKES GAME ONE IN OVERTIME, BUT FALLS IN GAME TWO
The Matchup: St. Cloud (19-13-4) split the weekend series with the Austin Bruins (21-18-2) on Feb 2-3 by scores of 2-1(OT) and 2-1 in a home-and-home series.
A Look at the Central:
St. Cloud now sits fourth in the Central Division behind Aberdeen, Bismarck and Minot with 49 team points. Austin is currently in fifth place with 45 points.
Series Review:
In game one, Michael Coleman (Grand Forks, N.D.) got on the board first for St. Cloud at the 3:38 mark of the first period. After a scoreless middle frame, Jackson Luther tied the game up to force the contest up into overtime when he lit the lamp for the Bruins at the 5:30 mark of the third period. It was leading-scorer Hagen Moe (Grand Rapids, Mich.) who netted the game winner for STC in a 2-1 overtime win.
In game two, Damon Furuseth put Austin on the scoresheet at the 9:58 mark of the second period. In the final stanza, Alex Laurenza added to the Bruins lead at 4:19. Moe cut the deficit in half when he found the back of the net to make the score 2-1. This goal was not enough as the Austin Bruins would take the game in regulation by a final score of 2-1.
Between The Pipes:
Game one: Max Weilandt (Northbrook, Ill.) turned aside 28 of 29 shots on goal. For Austin, Trent Wieken made 17 saves in the loss.
Game two: Weilandt made 30 saves in game two as his team took the loss, Wiemken led his team to the series split by making 11 saves as the Bruins took the Saturday night contest..
Up Next on the Schedule:
St. Cloud will begin a home series with first place Minot for the second time this month. Both contests will be played inside of the friendly confines of the Saint Cloud Municipal Athletic Complex at Torrey Arena.
