NORSEMEN SPLIT SERIES WITH FIRST PLACE MINOT

ST. CLOUD PREVAILS IN GAME ONE AND FALLS IN OVERTIME THRILLER

The Matchup: St. Cloud (18-12-4) split the weekend series with the Minot Minotauros (30-10-1) on Feb 2-3 by scores of 6-4 and 5-4 (OT) at St Cloud Municipal Athletic Complex inside Torrey Rink.

 A Look at the Central:

St. Cloud now sits fourth in the Central Division behind Aberdeen, Bismarck and Minot with 47 team points. Minot leads the way with 61 points.

Series Review: 

In game one, Tyler Dysart scored (Sunnyvale, Calif.) the lone goal in the first period of play as the Norsemen were down 2-1 at the break. Andrew Cumming (St. Cloud, Minn.) tied the game 2-2 at the 14:37 mark of the second period. Minot got back on the board when Jack O’Hanisain netted his 15th of the year. St. Cloud went on to score three third period goals when Michael Coleman (Grand Forks, N.D.), Gavin Gunderson (Roseau, Minn.) and Dysart all lit the lamp to seal a 6-4 STC win.

In game two, Cumming, Wes Berg (Fort Myers, Fla.) and Gunderson all scored first period goals and went into the second period up 3-1. In the second period of play, the Minotauros found its stride as they scored three third period goals courtesy of John Emmons, Will Dawson and Joel Lehtinen. For St. Cloud, Peyton Mithmuangneua (Aldergrove, B.C.) netted the equalizer to force the contest into an overtime session. It was Emmons who scored the game winner just four minutes into the overtime period.

Between The Pipes:

 Game one: Max Weilandt (Northbrook, Ill.) stopped 34 of 38 shots in the victory. Minotauros netminder Brady James made 14 saves in the loss.

 Game two: Ryan Manzella (Eagan, Minn.) turned aside 29 of 34 shots in 64 minutes. For Minot, James made 23 saves on 27 shot attempts by Norsemen skaters.

Up Next on the Schedule:

St. Cloud will begin a home-and-home series with the Austin Bruins at Torrey Arena on Feb. 9-10. Puck drop will take place at 7:00 p.m. (C.T.) Game two will take place at Riverside Arena in Austin, Minn. Puck drop for that contest will begin at 7:05 p.m. (C.T.)
