ST. CLOUD FINISHED IN FIFTH PLACE IN THE CENTRAL DIVISION
The Matchup: St. Cloud (26-21-6) split the fourth place Austin Bruins (31-25-3) in a two game weekend series falling 6-1 on April. 12 and defeating the Bruins 3-0 on Saturday, April 13. Game one was played at Riverside Arena in Austin, Minn. Game two was played at the St. Cloud Municipal Athletic Complex
A Look at the Central: After this weekend, the Norsemen ended the season with 65 points. Austin clinched a playoff spot with 66 points.
Series Review:
In game one, Austin came flying out of the gates scoring four goals in the first two periods. Saint Cloud got one back off the stick of Keaton Orrey (Eagan, Minn./ Eagan H.S.) at the 7:20 mark of the second period. In the third period, the Bruins added onto the early lead after Austin Salani and Damon Furuseth found the back of the net. Austin would go on to win the contest by a final score of 6-1.
In game two, neither team could find the back of the net throughout the first two periods of play. Saint Cloud received three third period goals in a span of sixteen minutes. Michael Coleman (Grand Forks, N.D./Red River High/ USHS) would net his 25th goal of the season at 3:24. Wes Berg (Fort Myers, Fla./Benilde St. Margaret’s School/ USHS) extended the lead at 8:08. Wyatt Wurst (Edina, Minn./Edina/USHS) would score his eighth of the season and the final goal of the contest in the 3-0 STC victory.
Between The Pipes:
Max Weilandt (Northbrook, Ill./Dubuque/USHL) made 20 saves on 24 shot attempts. Bruins Goaltender Trent Wiemken made 23 saves to secure the win.
In game two, Ryan Manzella (Eagan, Minn./Sioux Falls Power/TIEHL U18) would go on to lead the Norsemen to a 24 save shutout victory. For Austin, Vilgot Holm made 18 saves.
