ST. CLOUD FALL IN OVERTIME GAME ON FRIDAY BUT PREVAIL 9-1 ON SATURDAY
The Matchup: St. Cloud (20-15-5) split the series with last place North Iowa Bulls(10-34-0) in a home-and-home series by scores of 3-2 (OT) and 9-1 on Feb. 23-24.
A Look at the Central: After the split, the Norsemen remain in fourth place in the Central Division. North Iowa is in sixth place with 22 divisional points.
Series Review: In game one, Tyler Geyer (Blaine, Minn.) opened up the scoring at the 13:09 mark of the first period. North Iowa responded in the third period with goals from Jack Seaverson and Eli Miller. For St. Cloud, Hagen Moe (Grand Rapids, Mich.) found the back of the net to knot the contest at two. North Iowa would prevail when Seaverson scored his second goal of the game and the eventual game-winner.
In game two, the Norsemen received nine consecutive goals from Wes Berg (Fort Myers, Fla.), Moe, Michael Coleman (Grand Forks, N.D.), Danny Reis (Waunakee, Wis.), Lucca Munoz (Chicago, Ill.), Peyton Mithmuangneua (Aldergrove, B.C.), Sammy Crane (Aurora, Ill.). Zach Laurila netted his eighth of the year and the lone goal for North Iowa. STC had a 43-16 edge in shots on goal.
Between The Pipes:
Game 1: Ryan Manzella (Eagan, Minn.) made 26 saves while facing 29 shots. Santo Simmchen made 45 saves in the Friday night overtime win for the Bulls.
Game 2: Max Weilandt (Northbrook, Ill.) turned aside 15 of 16 shots. For North Iowa, Simmchen made 34 stops on 43 shot attempts in the loss.
Up Next on the Schedule:
The Norsemen will begin the month of March facing off against the Austin Bruins in a home-and-home series. Game one will be played at home at the St. Cloud Municipal Athletic Complex inside Torrey Arena (7:00 C.T.). Game two will be played at Riverside Arena (7:05 C.T.) in Austin, Minn.
