ST. CLOUD OUTSCORES NORTH IOWA 16-to-5

The Matchup: St. Cloud (25-20-6) swept the last place North Iowa Bulls(11-45-0) in a two game weekend series winning by a score of 6-1 on April. 4 and routing the Bulls 10-4 on Saturday, April 5. Game one was played at the St. Cloud Municipal Athletic Complex and game two was played at Mason City Arena in Mason City, Iowa.

A Look at the Central: After this weekend, the Norsemen remain in fifth-place in the Central Division with 63 points. North Iowa sits in last place with 24 divisional points.

Series Review: The Norsemen opened up the scoring with three goals in the first period off the stick of Hudson Blue (Costa Mesa, Calif./Sioux Falls Power/ TIEHL U18), Michael Coleman (Grand Forks, N.D./Grand Forks Red River/ USHS) and Tyler Dysart (Sunnyvale, Calif./New Jersey/NCDC). In the second period of play, Jack Christ (Chaska, Minn./Chanhassen/USHS) found the back of the net at the 7:07 mark of the period. Sammy Crane (Aurora, Ill./Shattuck/USHS-Prep) extended the lead to 5-0 going into the break. North Iowa got one back from Jackson Schouten who netted his second of the season. It would be St. Cloud who would prevail after a goal from Hagen Moe (Grand Rapids, Mich./Springfield/NAHL) who lit the lamp for the 22nd of his career and the eventual game-winner. STC would go on to win 6-1.

In game two, STC set the tone scoring 16 seconds into the game with a goal from Coleman. North Iowa responded with three goals in the period including two  from Sangyeob Kim and a tally from Teddy Richardson. The Norsemen would go on to score three goals of their own.  Coleman would score two and Peyton Mithmuangneua (Aldergrove, B.C./Cranbrook/BCHL) scored his ninth of the season. In the second frame, Wes Berg (Fort Myers, Fla./Benilde St. Margaret’s School/USHS) and Kyle Miller (San Jose, Calif./San Jose/ TIEHL U18) extended the lead to 6-3 after two periods. In the final stanza, the Norsemen received four goals from Dysart, Gavin Gunderson (Roseau, Minn./Niverville/MJHL), Coleman, and Christ. North Iowa would get one back from Nolan Grier. STC would go onto sweep the series and win game two 10-4.

Between The Pipes:

In game one, Max Weilandt (Northbrook, Ill./Dubuque/USHL) made 14 saves on 15 shot attempts. Bulls  Goaltender Connor Graham made 31 saves in the loss.

In game two, Weilandt would turn aside 17 of 21 shots in the victory. For North Iowa, the pair of Santo Simmchen and Graham made 39 saves.

Up Next on the Schedule:

The Norsemen will face the Austin Bruins on April 12-13 when they begin a home-and-home series. Game one will be played at the Riverside Arena in Austin, Minn.Game two will be played at St. Cloud Municipal Athletic Complex at Torrey Arena in St Cloud, Minn. Game one will be played at 7:05 p.m. (C.T). The puck will drop at 7:00 p.m. (C.T) for game two on Saturday.
