Jan 30, 2022

St. Cloud, Minn. — The St. Cloud Norsemen take the weekend sweep of Minot with an 8-3 victory on Saturday after a 4-0 shutout win on Friday, at the St. Cloud Municipal Athletic Complex.

St. Cloud climbs into second place in the Central Division after a 6-point surge in the last three days. The Norsemen are just four points back of first place Austin with several games in hand over the rest of the division.

Norsemen goaltender Tomas Bolo earned his third shutout of the season on Friday, making 35 saves in the victory. Bolo backstopped St. Cloud to three wins this week making 90 saves in those games, with a 4-2 win and 30 save performance on the road at North Iowa on Thursday, before back-to-back home triumphs over Minot.

In Saturday’s 8-3 win, St. Cloud saw seven different goal-scorers, led by a pair of goals and an assist from Blake Perbix (St. Cloud Cathedral / Princeton, MN / Northern Michigan). A highlight during the five-goal second period was two shorthanded goals scored two seconds apart, the first by Blake Mesenburg (Orono, MN) assisted by Peyton Hanson (Hudson, WI). The second goal came seconds later after Nik Hong (Minneapolis, MN) won a face back to Evan Murr (Stillwater, MN) and Murr fired it off the glass and straight past Minot’s goaltender and into the back of the net.

St. Cloud also saw scoring from Brandon Lajoie, Hunter Hanson, Kade Peterson and Chase Freiermuth in Saturday’s win. Broten Sabo tallied three assists on the night.

Friday, the Norsemen put four goals past the Minotauros with Jack Whitmore, Hunter Hanson, Ryan O’Neill and Murr lighting the lamp.
