THE NORSEMEN SPLIT ANOTHER COMPETITIVE SERIES

Nov 6, 2024

THE MATCHUP: St. Cloud (9-3-1-2) vs Minot (8-4-1) split yet another high level series this past weekend in St. Cloud Municipal Arena. Minot won game one but St. Cloud bounced back taking game two of the series.

Game One Recap: This game was a battle both ways throughout the entire game but Minot ended up squeaking out a win by a score of 1-0. The first period was a very high paced period with St. Cloud leading the way in shots on net (9-6). Unfortunately for the Norsemen, Minot managed to get one by Beck Liden late in the first to take an early lead. Minot’s Billy Baton scored his fourth of the season to jump start his team early in this series. As the game went on both teams managed to stay balanced with their attack and discipline in their own end. The story of this one was the goaltending on both sides but also Minot’s penalty kill was outstanding. They killed off all three of the Norsemen’s powerplays and that ended up being the difference in this game.

Game Two Recap: St. Cloud continued to dominate in the shots on goal category in this game as they finished with 31 compared to Minot’s 19. Sam Crane stepped up in a big way early for the Norsemen as he scored his sixth goal of the season and helped them get out to an early lead in this one. The second period was reminiscent of game one in this series, both teams playing tough hockey in a scoreless period. Both goaltenders looked great throughout the game and made some key saves as the game went on. But as the third period started Ty James decided he wanted to score his first of the year for the Minotauros. With only a shocking 1 minute into the third the Minotauros carried all the momentum. They continued to pour it on in the third when Adam Mahler scored his third of the year to give the Minotauros a huge 2-1 lead. Even after giving up two third period goals, the Norsemen showed grit and resilience when Hudson Blue scored his fifth of the year to tie this one up. Both goaltenders were remarkable late in the third to send this hard fought game to overtime! The Norsemen were not fazed in Overtime and Tim Runtso stepped up big scoring his third of the year to get a huge victory for St. Cloud in this weekend series.

Next Up: This series continues next weekend when St. Cloud travels to Minot to seek another win against an early season rival! Both games will take place at the Pepsi Rink at Maysa Arena, with game one on Friday November 8th and game two Saturday November 9th. Hope to see you there Norsemen fans!
