NORSEMEN CAPTAIN YOUNG COMMITS TO UNION

St. Cloud Norsemen defenseman and captain Nick Young has announced his commitment to play NCAA Division I hockey at Union College.

Young is a 6’3, 210 lbs. right-shot defenseman from Raleigh, North Carolina. Young played 117 games in the North American Hockey League, tallying 10 goals and 26 assists for 36 points.

In the 2021-22 season, Young played in all 71 games in the regular season and playoffs, scoring 6 goals and adding 18 assists for 24 points. A staple on the penalty kill, Young also picked up three shorthanded assists this season.

Young led the Norsemen to the NAHL Robertson Cup playoffs and a Central Division championship, helping St. Cloud to a franchise record 41 wins in the regular season and 47 wins overall.

St. Cloud had the fourth-lowest goals against in the NAHL. The Norsemen defense allowed the second-fewest shots in the league this season.

The Norsemen have ten NCAA commits on the active roster and an 11th was called up by his NCAA team at the semester break (Sam Duerr, Maine). NCAA Division I commitments are: Nik Hong (Dartmouth), Brandon Lajoie (Alaska-Anchorage), Blake Mesenburg (Miami), Evan Murr (Minnesota State – Mankato), Ryan O’Neill (St. Thomas), John Opilka (St. Cloud State), Blake Perbix (Northern Michigan), Max Strand (Vermont), Young (Union) — along with Gunnar Johnson who will play Division III at St. Olaf.
